The Pre-School Charity
Peasmarsh Flying Start Pre-School is a registered charity; number 1124108. The charity’s objectives are to: advance the pre-school education of children in Peasmarsh and the surrounding area by providing a safe, stimulating and appropriate environment for learning; and, to encourage parents and carers to become involved.
The Pre-School originally operated in Peasmarsh Memorial Hall and moved to its current site, next to the Primary School, in September 2006. These new facilities were purpose-built with Sure Start funding.
Governed by parents
The Pre-School’s operations are governed by a Constitution. The key decisions are made by a Management Committee which is made up of parents and other volunteers. The Committee meets every two months and holds an Annual General Meeting. The Chair of the Committee is Zoey Hanks who can be contacted through the pre-school.
We are very keen to involve as many parents as possible in the running of the Pre-School. Joining the Committee does not have to mean a hefty time commitment. In fact, any contribution you can make is very welcome. The Pre-School can only operate if there are enough parents willing to join the Committee.
Joining the Management Committee
Any parents or carers are very welcome to nominate themselves for the Committee. If you are interested, why not attend a Committee meeting to see what takes place? If you subsequently decide to volunteer, you will then need to complete Disclosure and Barring Service and Ofsted checks. We can help you to do this. The team are happy to answer any questions about the Committee. Or you can email the Committee Chair on chairperson@flying-start.org.uk.
You can see the dates for upcoming Committee Meetings here. We would love as many parents as possible to come along. As well as giving you a chance to learn more about the Committee (and meet us!), these meetings are where we make decisions about how the Pre-School is run. Meetings take place at Pre-School and are also online via Zoom.
Fundraising
Another important function of the Committee is to organise fundraising events. Such events supplement our income from fees and allow us to buy new equipment and pay for staff training. So any help or ideas parents can give for fundraisers will be gratefully received. If you have any suggestions, please email them to chairperson@flying-start.org.uk or talk to a member of staff.
